Last month we reported that Scotiabank Canada introduced new fees for small businesses, requiring them to pay $25/month for allowing their customers to pay their bills electronically.

Apparently, The Bank of Nova Scotia realized that this fee was a bad idea and rethought its policies.

Or at least that’s what the press reports.

According to a story in Vancouver Sun, one of the small businesses earlier slapped with this fee received the following message from Scotiabank:

“On Dec. 1, 2009, we introduced you to the Scotia Bill Payment Remittance Reporting Service, a new online service that makes it easier for you to receive your bill payment remittance reports. Since then we have received valuable feedback from some of our smaller volume and seasonal billers regarding the flat monthly fee. As a result, we have decided to extend the delivery of your current fax or e-mail reporting service to April 15th, so that we may conduct a thorough review of the pricing structure of the new online service.”

These are good news for small business owners, while Scotiabank scores some points here on listening to its customers.

While so far CIBC remains to be the only Canadian bank to offer a full featured online mobile banking app for the iPhone and iPod Touch (see: CIBC iPhone / iTouch online mobile banking app download), at least two other banks from Canada seem to be on the verge of getting their own full-featured online banking apps.

In a recent press release Scotiabank stated that it’s working together with USA based M-Com in order to bring its own full featured mobile banking app to its clients, while TD Canada Trust Senior VP Paal Kaperda recently revealed to The Financial Post that TD is “definitely looking” into getting a full featured mobile / online banking app of its own.

So far both TD and Scotia (as well as RBC and National Bank of Canada) offer free mobile banking apps that allow their clients to find the closest ATM machine locations and bank branches. You can download these below:

- TD Bank (mobile banking app download).
- BMO (mobile banking app download).
- Scotia (mobile banking app download).
- RBC (mobile banking app download).

Online-Bank.ca will keep you posted as to when exactly these financial institutions will launch their full-featured mobile banking apps — ones that will allow clients to pay bills, transfer money, and check account statements through their mobile phones — and where you could download them.
